Drug adherence, changing lifestyle habits, patient interaction or simply acquiring new knowledge can be difficult tasks for every individual. Who hasn’t lost motivation when trying to implement new year’s challenges? However, the issues of adherence and motivation are particularly difficult to steer from a provider’s side.
In 2003, the World Health Organization estimated that only about 50% of patients with chronic diseases living in developed countries follow treatment recommendations. A 2014 literature review from the Cochrane Library suggests that the figures have not improved.
Therefore, technologies and ideas from the gaming industry have recently become more and more prominent in the field of life science and healthcare. During this session, we will discover how the knowledge of the gaming industry can be used for medical purposes. The session will have a look into the underlying systematic and new technologies of gaming, showcase three successful examples of gaming in health and leave enough room for discussion of new applications.
