The Rabbit Indie Games Residency Returns - with Teams from Brandenburg and Global South

This year's edition of The Rabbit announced 15 participants within 6 teams. The one-month residency for independent video game developers will run from 31 October to 28 November 2024, at Coconat, in Brandenburg, just an hour outside of Berlin.

The selected teams are:

This year The Rabbit received more than double the applications than the first 2 years combined. The selection of 15 participants from 6 teams - 50% local and 50% international - was done by a jury composed of the industry experts Mascha Camino (Guerrilla Games, Amsterdam), Mfon Enoh (Dojo Talent, Nigeria), Dr. Kenneth Norwood (University Lecturer and Freelance Writer, Berlin), Josh "Stuffed Wombat" Hollendonner (Indie game developer - The Rabbit alumni from 2023, Austria) and Tim Ahlert (Headup Games, Düren).

The jury’s focus was of course to find amazing game-developers, and with a special focus on achieving real diversity. The teams selected all showed a commitment to diversity themselves. Criteria included gender diversity as well as studio and game-play values; because of this, 40% of the participants are from under-represented genders in games, and teams from Africa and South America have been invited.

During the one-month residency, the 15 game developers will be able to work on their games, grow as a team, learn from industry experts and exchange knowledge with their peers. They will also participate in Berlin’s very Games Ground, a gaming festival, showcasing their projects to the greater community.

With the support of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the full residency program includes a dedicated game-making workspace, workshops, coaching sessions, excursions & team building activities, networking & pitching events and also the attendance to a gaming event in Berlin.

Julianne Becker - Co-founder of Coconat and initiator of the residency, and Ruth Lemmen - Program Director of The Rabbit, are positively overwhelmed by the submissions received: "This is the third edition of The Rabbit, and it was our explicit goal to have a team from the Global South participating. We activated our existing networks and received the whole world, which makes us proud and very grateful to all those who supported us. We very much appreciated and valued each and every single application we received - so many fantastic teams and great projects. Our esteemed jury had a tough job while choosing the participants for our residency."
