GDD Indie Award for Best Game goes to Berlin-based studio Torpor Games

Although the German Dev Days (GDD) conference had to be cancelled for the second time in a row, the Indie Award could take place as a digital event on December 17th 2021. Hosted by Stephan Reichart and Stefan Marcinek and streamed live on Youtube and Twitch, the prizes were awarded in seven main and two special categories. The awards are organized by Assemble Entertainment, a publisher based in Wiesbaden, and funded by the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Housing with a total prize money of 10,000 €.

The awards for Best Game and Best Story went to Torpor Games UG, a Berlin-based indie studio with a team of nine. The studio focuses on creating thought-provoking entertainment and says that Suzerain "demonstrates their goal of questioning our reality through the medium of video games". The game represents a political drama set in the 1950s and allows players to explore what they would do if they had to lead a country in political turmoil.

If you missed the show, you can re-watch it on the Youtube channel of GDD.
