The Deutscher Entwicklerpreis 2020 (German Development Award) will be awarded on the 20th of January. This event is delayed due to the Covid-pandemic and with the date also the format has changed. The ceremony will be held online and can be watched live via http://www.deutscherentwicklerpreis.de.
In 15 categories the nominees can claim one of these sought after awards, with two special categories without nominees called “Soziales Engagement” (Social Engagement) and “NRW Förderpreis für junge Entwicklerinnen” (Nordrhein-Westfalen development award for young female developers).
The jury received 163 submissions for the different categories, of which a selection has made it to the last round, including seven renowned studios from Berlin.
Kolibri-Games, the mobile games studio from the capital, known for their very successful game “Idle Miner Tycoon”, is nominated as “Bestes Studio” (Best Studio) and with Idle Miner Tycoon in the category “Dauerbrenner” (Longtime favorite). The studio was already awarded by Deloitte as the fastest growing tech company in Germany.
Also nominated for “Bestes Studio” is the indie-developer Maschinen-Mensch from Berlin.
Paintbucket Games has inspired the jury and is nominated in three categories with the game “Through the darkest of times”. The game could be seen as one of the favourites of the DEP and is nominated as “Bestes Deutsches Spiel” (Best German Game), “Beste Story” (Best Story) and “Bestes Indie Game” (Best Indie Game).
The developer Ion Lands is also nominated for “Bestes Deutsches Spiel” and “Bester Sound” (Best Sound) with their game “Cloudpunk”. Pangolin Park is also nominated for “Best Sound” with “1-800 SUPER”.
The studio smpl Games, known for their indie-animation and indie-games is nominated with their title “High Rise” for “Bestes Mobile Game” (Best Mobile Game).
Finally, Sandbox Interactive as seventh studio from Berlin made it to the nominees with their game “Albion Online” for the category “Dauerbrenner”.
